Two Lost Teeth, an Alligator Attack, and a Broken Arm

Steve was travelling this week and, of course, hence all the drama happens. He called home on Wednesday afternoon to tell me he was catching an earlier flight and would be home in time to help tuck in the kids. He then wanted to know how everyone was and what we had been doing.

"Are you sure you really want to know?" I ask him.

"Why!? What happened?!" he asks in a panicked voice.

"Well, both boys lost a tooth, Nicholas was attacked by an alligator this morning, and we are on our way to Urgent Care to see if Naomi broke her arm?" I answer with a nervous giggle. It was either a giggle or tears. I thought tears might be a bit much and make Steve worry.

"Both boys lost a tooth? Did they hit each other? How did Naomi break her arm?" asks a now completely panicked Steve. I had to laugh because this really did bring up several funny images to my mind about what Steve must be thinking.

I proceeded to tell him the whole story. The day he left Jeremy's loose tooth finally came out. He was elated and Nicholas was devastated. Nicholas has had a loose tooth much longer than Jeremy's has been loose and to have Jeremy's fall out first was just not acceptable. To top it off, the last couple of days Nicholas's tooth has been even more painful when it wiggled and that has added to the apprehension of the actual falling out of the tooth. Nicholas goes to bed in tears while Jeremy is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the tooth fairy. The next morning a totally different Nicholas appears with a tooth in his hand. He had finally gotten up the nerve to just try and pull the tooth out...and it worked. He was so excited that the tooth fairy was going to be coming again tonight, but this time for him.

Later that morning, we went on our fieldtrip to the Kannapolis Intimidators game (minor league baseball team). Naomi had to use the restroom as soon as we got there so I told the boys to stay right where they were and we would be right back. I turned around after opening the bathroom door just to check that the boys were okay and noticed the Intimidators mascot, Tim E. Gator, sneaking up on Jeremy and Nicholas. They were so busy pointing out all the cool things in the stadium that they didn't even notice. Tim E. went right up behind Nicholas, opened his jaws right above his head and tapped him on the shoulder. Nicholas turned around to a mouth full of teeth and first screamed and then laughed when he realized who it was. I was laughing hysterically at this point. I then went into the bathroom with Naomi. When we got back out Nicholas and Jeremy were both talking, at the same time, about the whole incident. They thought it was great!!!!

Later that day we went to the park for Park Day with our other homeschool friends. Naomi was climbing on the outside of a tube that connects two different parts of the playset. She has done this hundreds of times and has not fallen, but Steve is out of town today so.... She screamed for the first half an hour and would not be consoled until Nicholas suggested going home for some icecream. That seemed to do the trick almost immediately. Once at home she did calm down and the icecream did make her feel better, but she still wouldn't use her right hand and would cry out anytime she moved it. That's when I decided to take her to the Urgent Care to check it out. This is when Steve called.

To end the story, her wrist was broken and we had to go and see Dr. Kutner, the greatest pediatric ortho doc in the world!!!! He put the prettiest purple cast on her arm and told her she had to look pretty in purple for four weeks. She thanked him several times for the wonderful cast and we came home. We will see how long it lasts before she wants to take it off!!! The up side is that the cast comes off two days before the pool opens!!!
